Last Remaining Seats Opens with "Rear Window"

The 25th Annual Last Remaining Seats opens tomorrow at the Historic Orpehum Theatre with Leonard Maltin hosting the SOLD-OUT screening of Hitchcock's classic, Rear Window, but don't fret! There are still a few seats to other screenings of classic films and live entertainment in historic LA theatres, during this special anniversary season. (I'd hurry though... before they sell out as well!)

Culture and art at your fingertips: Hammer Museum launches a free mobile app

I've already loved the depth and breadth of the Hammer Museum's event calendar, especially when so many are free! Now that they've rolled out a free mobile app to not only help plan my visit, but enhance my experience while I'm there, I see no reason not to go!

Staff Picks: Upcoming events we're excited about!

Memorial Day and Father's Day (this year, it's June 19th!) are both coming up and that means summer is just around the corner! Here are a few events that have us buzzing about here at ExperienceLA (in a somewhat chronological order):

$25 Tickets to "Juan and John" at the Kirk Douglas Theatre

JJ400x400

Looking to schedule some theatre into your calendar this month?  Check out Juan and John at the Kirk Douglas Theatre!

A powerfully poetic story about the infamous summer day in 1965 when San Francisco Giants pitcher Juan Marichal hit Los Angeles Dodgers catcher John Roseboro in the head with his bat. Playwright Roger Guenveur Smith witnessed the event on television and passionately presents it as part of a greater story that encompasses the Watts riots, Catholicism, the notions of marriage, family and, ultimately, redemption and forgiveness.

Tickets are only $25!  Find out more details on ExperienceLA.com!

Worried about Parking?  No worries!  FREE covered parking is available after 6pm on weeknights and all day on weekends under Culver City's City Hall at Culver Blvd and Duquesne Avenue. Enter on Duquesne.

28th Annual Children’s Day Celebration (Kodomo no Hi)

The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC) presents the 28th Annual Children’s Day Celebration on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the JACCC campus and adjacent San Pedro Street in the heart of Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles. It’s all about kids in this signature festival, where children and their families come together for a fun and culturally rich celebration of the traditional Japanese holiday Kodomo no Hi (Children’s Day). This year the JACCC will provide kids with the opportunity to contribute to the Japan Relief efforts by collecting donations for Kids Help Kids in Japan, a dedicated sponsorship heat added to the signature Chibi-K: Kids Fun Run.

China Philharmonic Orchestra: Bridging differences

A couple weekends ago, I had the privilege of attending a concert by the China Philharmonic Orchestra at the Valley Performing Arts Center (see my previous post). Admittedly, some of my own ideas and beliefs of Chinese culture prepared me for a skillfully executed, but superficial, unemotional show. Fortunately for me, and I'm sure for the rest of the audience, the CPO's performance that evening was deeply moving and full of emotion.
