Dance Video Challenge: Bhangra & Bollywood

Wanna win tickets to see an upcoming performance of Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center? Read on to see how you can enter our fun and easy video challenge based on the Music Center's Active Arts® Dance Downtown Series. (Photo courtesy of Music Center, credit: Howard Pasamanick)

So, how does it work? We got together with the Music Center and a few dance instructors to create three introductory videos, giving you a sneak peek at some of the dance styles that are part of this year's Dance Downtown events.

The first video features Bhangra & Bollywood, the dramatic and energetic dance from India. Check out our video and learn the moves. Then, when you think you've got it figured out, send us a short video of you dancing to the routine you just learned. Or, you can come up with your very own choreography based on the steps you've just learned or any other steps you may already know (see detailed instructions below). 

Winners will be randomly drawn, and announced on our blog and at an upcoming Dance Downtown event. Each winner will receive one pair of tickets to a select performance of Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center 2010/11 season. Choose from:

• Grupo Corpo - Friday, January 28, 2011, 7:30pm
• Nederlands Dans Theater - Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 7:30pm
• Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater - Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 7:30pm
• Mark Morris Dance Group - Friday, May 6, 2011, 7:30pm 

To recap, here's what you'll need to do to enter our contest:

1. Watch our instructional video and learn the moves (see below, or click here - hint: you can view in larger screen mode or click over to our YouTube page to view a larger screen).
2. Recreate the choreography from the intro video, or come up with your own routine based on what you just learned. 
3. Send us a video of your choreography. Videos should be no more than 60 seconds long. Acceptable formats include m4v, wmv, mov, avi, and mpeg. Email your video entry to staff @ experienceLA.com (do not include spaces in email) with the subject line "Dance Downtown."
4. Include in your email entry your FULL NAME and PHONE NUMBER.
5. Confirm that you agree your video entry may be used as part of our promotional efforts for this ongoing contest (simply copy this sentence and replace the "you's" with "I's").
6. Email staff @ experiencela.com (again, no spaces) with any questions you may have. 
7. Entries for "Bhangra & Bollywood" must be received by the deadline of noon (12PM PST) on Friday, July 2nd, 2010.
8. Join us for free Bhangra & Bollywood dance lessons at the Music Center that night (Friday, July 2nd) for some fun, and to see if you've won our challenge!
