Charles Dickens' classic tale A Christmas Carol is a beloved holiday story for many and nowhere is that more apparent than in the theatre productions inspired by it happening all around Los Angeles.  Check out this list of productions that highlight the traditional story (many featuring Dickens himself!) as well as new and creative twists to the tale!

The Second City take on this classic tale, twisting it with wicked satire, daring improv and a host of guest celebs run rampant on the Victorian streets (of Culver City).  Parental guidance suggested; not recommended for children under 13.

A Christmas Carol with Charles Dickens - Independent Shakespeare Co.

Independent Shakespeare Co. re-create a public reading given by Charles Dickens, featuring the "acting pyrotechnics" Dickens was famous for.  Performed by ISC co-founder David Melville as Charles Dickens, Melville will perform nearly every character in the story with musical accompaniment.

In this stage version, Charles Dickens guides us through the classical tale of Ebenezer Scrooge.

Dickens Day Holiday Celebration - International Printing Museum
Dec 14-15; 10AM-4PM (Performances at 11AM, 1PM, 3PM)
This holiday event features performances of A Christmas Carol as well as appearances by characters from Dickens' classic stories.  Admission includes all activities and holiday lunch.  To see performances of a play, you must make reservations in advance.  You will also be able to print your own Christmas cards and gift tags on the museum's working vintage printing press and tour the museum's collections.

Little Miss Scrooge - Rubicon Theatre

Rubicon Theatre - Ventura
This production combines two of Dickens' famous classics - the love story of Great Expectations and the ghost story of A Christmas Carol.  Featuring a pop-rock score, the story follows Estella Scrooge (Rebecca Ann Johnson), a Wall Street tycoon and direct descendant of Ebenezer, as she travels to Pickwick, Ohio on Christmas Eve to foreclose on The Harthouse Hotel, a haven for the lost, lonely and dispossessed.
