Dia de los Muertos Events in Los Angeles

Throughout the world, Dia de los Muertos - or Day of the Dead - is a holiday where family and friends remember those who have passed on.  Los Angeles is a great place to celebrate the day and there are plenty of Dia de Los Muertos-related events currently on the ExperienceLA calendar.  Check out this list of select events to find an event near you.





Grand Park's Noche de Ofrenda and Grand Park's Dia de Los Muertos
Noche de Ofrenda - October 26, 2013: 6PM-9PM
Dia de los Muertos - November 2, 2013: 3PM-11PM
Grand Park - Downtown LA
Noche de Ofrenda begins the week-long display of 40 altars.  The week will close with the November 2nd Downtown Dia de los Muertos event that will includ e food trucks, free face-painting, bands, and a full bar.

Frightfully Fun Fishy Fest

Heal the Bay's Santa Monica Pier Aquarium - Santa Monica
This family-friendly event includes activities for kids including creating Dia de los Muertos crafts and masks.

UCLA@SPARC Presents: Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos Celebration in Venice
October 31, 2013: 5:30PM-8:30PM
Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) - Venice
SPARC presents a traditional Dia de los Muertos ceremony at this event occurring at SPARCs's historic headquarters. The ceremony will be led by UCLA instructor and SPARCs Artist-in-Residence, Martha Ramirez-Oropeza and UCLA's Cesar E. Chavez Chicana/o Studies Department students. There will also be a Ballet Folklorico performance and the serving of traditional pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread) and Mexican hot chocolate. The community is invited to bring a personal momento or photo of a loved-one to place at the altar.

Alhambra's First Friday November - Gratitude
November 1, 2013: 5PM-9PM
Renaissance Plaza - Alhambra
This First Friday event includes some Dia de los Muertos themed activities as well as live musical performances, raffles, vendors, and kid activities.

Day of the Dead in the Northeast San Fernando Valley
November 2, 2013: 3PM-9PM
San Fernando Pioneer Memorial Cemetary - Sylmar
This celebration is the culminating event to a week-long first-ever collaboration between non-profit groups in Sylmar.  The week-long observance includes performances of the original theatrical productions "Voices of Pioneer Cemetery" featuring characters from the cemetery's historical records.  The celebration on November 2nd is a free, family-friendly event that includes live music, art, vendors, ofrendas, photos, face painting, a children's corner and more.
