New Orleans Based The Revivalists at Club Nokia Tonight

DSC_7538
Tonight at L.A. Live's Club Nokia at 7 pm  are The Revivalists, a New Orleans based band, that is on a national tour, opening for Gov't Mule (who are doing two sets at 8:30 pm and 10:00 pm). I happened to catch a performance of The Revivalists at a recent New Orleans music and food festival - Slobsterfest.  Originally I was not planning on staying for the Saturday night closing act, but in talking to the fans of The Revivalists, I was intrigued.  Many of them were seeing David Shaw and his band for the tenth time, several having even traveled to Florida to see them again.  The band has been around for five years.

As soon as the band began playing, I was hooked, and was very impressed as to David Shaw immediately connecting with his audience.  He is extremely charismatic, and his voice can be hypnotic. The band is a fusion of many genres, and they see themselves as independent rock.  The band incorporates sounds of urban music along with blending in saxophone and an sometimes even a trumpet. If you miss them tonight at Club Nokia, then you can always travel down to San Diego to see them tomorrow night at House of Blues, again opening for Gov't Mule.  Or watch for them, if you are ever visiting New Orleans, as you might catch them in the burgeoning local music scene or even at the New Orleans Jazz Festival.  The Revivalists are being noticed in Louisiana, having won many awards, and are beginning to attract a national following. Update on September 20. 2012: The Revivalists were nominated for seven 2012 Best of the Beat Awards from Offbeat Magazine.

Here is a slideshow of my The Revivalists picture set on flickr, or for those using at Ipad, here is the direct link.

I also got to see Amanda Shaw for the first time at Slobsterfest whom I plan to share on Flickr and the ExperienceLA blog soon, as she is also about to tour California in early October, along with Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue (whom I have seen many times, and I am a big fan) who can be found at various clubs in both New Orleans and Los Angeles.  I am also planning to share my pictures of Gal Holiday on Flickr and to promote her upcoming November and December Los Angeles performances on ExperienceLA.
