Re-Cap Paleyfest 2014: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel at Paleyfest:
(Left to Right) Felicia Day (moderator), Jeph Loeb, Jeffrey Bell
Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet,
Ian de Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Jeb Whedon,
and Maurissa Tanchareon
Sunday, March 23rd offered an excellent afternoon event for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans fortunate enough to attend the Paleyfest 2014 event.  If you missed our live-tweets or want a little bit more context on our adventure, read on!

The event opened with an audience surprise - we were given Level 7 clearance and were able to watch the entirety of The End of the Beginning.  This episode, scheduled to air on April 1st, is perhaps one of the best episodes of the season; it is action-packed and will leave viewers on the edge of their seats.  That's all we can tell you with our Level 7 clearance.

The audience was also told that there will be a Captain America: The Winter Soldier (opening this weekend) tie-in to the show, encouraging everyone to go out and watch the film and then return for the next set of episodes.  Starting with the new episode on April 1st, seven new episodes will air in consecutive weeks to maintain the momentum of the series and meet fan demand.

Felicia Day was at the helm as an excellent moderator for a panel consisting of co-creators Maurissa Tanchareon and Jeb Whedon; cast members Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Brett Dalton, Iain de Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge; and executive producers Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell.

Felicia Day opened the panel with a politically correct observation:

The excitement of seeing the upcoming episode and Felicia Day's well-known fan favorite personality was the perfect launching point to a panel that gave viewers an inside look on the show with plenty of laughs.

On #CoulsonLives

There was discussion on the concept of how #CoulsonLives grew into the television show.  The popularity of the hashtag made Felicia Day suggest that perhaps Clark Gregg himself was the mastermind behind its initiation. Gregg didn't admit to this, but he did own up to being a Joss Whedon fanboy (well - aren't we all?)

On Ming-Na Wen's character Agent Melinda May

Co-creators Tanchareon and Whedon revealed that the concept of the Agent May's character was initially named "Agent Rice" but after the casting of Ming-Na Wen in the role, the name was changed for obvious reasons.

Ming-Na Wen revealed her storyline hopes regarding Melinda May's yet-to-be-written love affair with Thor connection with Skye:
On Brett Dalton

Despite Day's opening of the panel, there was some well-intended objectification of actor Brett Dalton, whose character is known for his good looks and sex appeal.  Day's follow-up question - "Brett, how is it sleeping with everybody?" - was consequently met with laughter throughout the cast and the audience.

On Skye and Coulson's Relationship

Bennett described her relationship with Agent Coulson as a father-daughter relationship, to which Gregg replied:

On Felicia Day Possibly Guest Starring

Given Day's past Whedonverse credentials (and her natural chemistry with cast members), a fan asked the likelihood of her guest starring.  We may want to keep an eye out for Felicia Day on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the future as fans were told that "Felicia is always on our minds..."

Hope you enjoy this re-cap! We're looking forward to hearing fan reactions on the upcoming new episode and are excited about the seven new episodes we'll be getting!
