A Letter to the Los Angeles Autumn

Pumpkins and a "Leaf" by intellichick
I wrote a Letter to Summer, so it was just as well that I wrote a letter to Fall. -Charity Tran

Dear Autumn,

I know the Autumn Equinox this year was September 22nd, but let's be honest - it kind of took you awhile to show up and cool things down a bit.  Even now, I'm not sure how long this will last.

No worries, we Angelenos continued on - packing away those hot pumpkin spice lattes and champurrado anyway while enjoying the warm weather for our Halloween shenanigans and Dia de Los Muertos festivities - but we did miss you.  Maybe it's the fact that Thanksgiving is almost near that I realize how much I am thankful for you.

You (usually) give us a reprieve from the summer heat, but really you change how we experience Los Angeles.  We're so renown for our sunshine, but with your rush of costumed holidays and the arrival of Thanksgiving, you turn us inward into our favorite indoor spaces while still allowing us to enjoy our amazing outdoor locations.  Indoors and outdoors we experience our festivalsfilmstheatre, and music, but because of you we better understand the details of our architecture, enjoy that thermos of hot chocolate at that outdoor concert, and bring out the bright colors of our jackets and our scarves as we head out into the LA landscape.

Winter will be here soon enough and maybe it's all the Christmas music that gets played too soon that it always seems to arrive far earlier than it should.  When it arrives, then we have plenty to look forward to, but  it means we let you go.

But while you are here, thanks.  I just thought you should know.
