Bach is So L.A.: Los Angeles Bach Events in October

Perhaps it's because I'll be singing in the chorus of the finale concert of the Los Angeles Bach Festival this year, but I've noticed that there are a lot of Bach events happening in Los Angeles.  This leads me to conclude that "Bach is so LA".

The following highlights Bach events for the month of October.




October 17th, 2010
Ensemble 415 with Chiara Banchini

The Da Camera Society which features chamber music in historic places kicks off their Nakamichi series with Swiss violinist virtuoso Chiara Banchini.  This concert located in the Pompeian Room of the beautiful Doheny Mansion will feature a program of Baroque sonatas and concerti by J. S. Bach (Concerto for violin & strings, BWV 1056r), Vivaldi (Trio Sonata in d, Op. 1/12 La Follia), Albinoni (Sinfonia in C, Op. 2/2 & Sonata in B-flat), Muffat (Sonata in g from Armonico Tributo) and Albicastro (Concerto, Op. 7/2).

The 77th Los Angeles Bach Festival 
Presented at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, the 77th Los Angeles Bach Festival is the oldest, continuous running cultural festival in Los Angeles.  Festivities include an organ concert with James Kibbit, a Midday Concert & Bach's Lunch, Bach to the Future: A Prism Concert featuring a pre-party with KCRW DJ Tom Schnabel and a laser light show, and a finale concert of Bach's The Passion According to St. John

October 20th, 2010
Homage to Bach - Chiara Banchini - Con Gioia Early Music Ensemble
In case you miss Chiara Banchini at the Da Camera Society, catch out Homage to Bach with the Con Gioia Early Music Ensemble.  With internationally known Harpsichordist Preethi de Silva, founder and artistic director of Con Gioia, the program includes J. S. Bachs Sonatas in C minor (BWV 1017) and in G Major (BWV 1019) for violin and obbligato harpsichord.

Zodiac Trio

October 30th, 2010
Vocalists from the Los Angeles Master Chorale
The Pomona College Music Department present a free concert featuring vocalists from the Los Angeles Master Chorale.  Karen Hogle Brown (soprano and Pomona College faculty performer), Scott Graff (baritone) and Shawn Kirchner (piano) join to perform music by Bach, Barber, Hoiby, Kirchner, Lauridson and others.
